Spring of 2012, my wife and I moved into our house and planted our first mini-garden. We grew cucumbers, tomatoes, pumpkins, okra, parsley and dill. We also planted a blueberry bush, but it's taking some time to catch on. We really enjoyed our garden. The food was very fresh, and of superior taste when compared to what you buy at the grocery store. Best of all, it was free.
In August of this year, we travelled to Russia to see my wife's family. They have an apartment in the city, but they also have a dacha out in the country with some land. A dacha is basically a country house. Anyway, on this land, most Russians typically grow food. The food there was plentiful. Cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, fruits and berries, carrots, onions, beets, turnips...you name it. They also raised chickens for eating and eggs, and also had geese. The food was plentiful and delicious. We never ran out. It was truly inspiring.
So my wife and I are going to expand our garden this year at our own home, but we are thinking of ways to maximize our land usage to grow as much as possible. This video was kind of inspiring as well.
