I recently asked my mom for the recipes to some of my favorite dinner's she'd make for me while growing up. It's been a long, long time since I've had them, and I've really missed them. So she gave me a handful of them, and we cooked up our first dish the other day. It was a simple one, but just a nice recipe I liked, and made my house smell like home when I was growing up. I'll share it with you, maybe some others down the road too.
Chili Con CarneNow this makes a pretty mild recipe - but it still tastes nice. Personally, I might like to add a little more onion, some cayenne pepper for heat, and then top it off with a dab of sour cream and some shredded cheese. You can also add some Bush's chili beans as well, if you want more bean variety. Or whatever you want, for that matter. It's chili!
1 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup chopped green pepper
1 one-pound can (2 cups) of tomatoes, broken up
1 one-pound can (2 cups) dark red kidney beans, dreained
1 eight ounce can of tomato sauce
1 teaspoon of salt
2 teaspoons of chili powder
1 bay leaf
In a heavy skillet, cook meat, onion, and green pepper until meat is lightly browned and vegetables are tender. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Remove bay leaf. Makes 4 servings.
If you try it out, let me know how you liked it, enjoy.
